i know i reviewed already, but i found it here and it bears reading again anyway!
i wanted to say also, that i had never also thought of the rage and hate that may have motivated Jien to take the sword to his mother, however in the light of what was going on, very much believable, even true maybe.
so the self loathing and the guilt stems from the fact that he did it as much for himself as he did in the defence of his little brother.
dark, but enlightening - if that makes sense.
