Reviewer: Sanada Anonymous Date: 05/25/05 - 12:55PM Title: All Good Things

This chapter was much easier (on the angst meter) to read. It was sad that Hakkai left without a word to anyone, but then you focused on the hostage situation and Sanzo’s chat with his boss. Both were great! I could just picture Goku and Gojyo making a sutra. When Gojyo told Sanzo he was going to give them the sutra I had no idea what you meant. That little plan was brilliant and so Gojyo & Goku-ish. I really think you write Sanzo to perfection. From the satisfaction he got from Gojyo’s reaction to Hakkai having left already to his form of meditation with the barrel of his pistol resting solidly against his temple, so right on the mark. Gojyo’s flippant "Is that like how your mom never goes anywhere without her pimp?" attitude and aggressive (don’t give a f- that Hakkai left) "It takes a real man to kill with your bare hands." behavior made this chapter very entertaining to say the least. The trio travelling alone brought me back to the sadness of the Hakkai thing and then … Kanan and GONOU! Holy shit! All I can say is Kanan should have been more careful what she wished for.

Author's Response: I actually want to write a fic now involving Sanzo meditating with the pistol pressed against his temple. I see that image so often in pictures, and I wanted to explain it beyond the obvious I'm-committing-suicide meaning. Mayhap sometime soon. ^^; I found Gojyo to be entertaining, but also highly depressing. He's not like Sanzo or Hakkai, who can both suppress their emotions--his pain and depression are both there, and he's just trying to turn them inside out. He's funny, but only because he's really hurting, and comedy is borne best from tragedy. And as for "Kanan" and Gonou, I think that the next chapter will be quite... interesting. Thanks for keeping up with me. I really enjoy your reviews. ^_^

Is it allowed to comment on author’s responses? After reading your comments, I was afraid that you misunderstood mine. When I said I couldn’t believe that Hakkai could turn his back on the group, I didn’t mean that your writing had been unbelievable (you know out of character), I meant it as a comment about Hakkai being a total jerk, you know “Gawd dammit Hakkai! What are you thinking?” Though I believe you had Gojyo sum it up better "No. No, fuck your sorry. Fuck that, and fuck you. Get out of my life." As far as the Sanzo Gojyo thing - when I said it was “left field under the circumstances” I was referring to the fact that Gojyo was so pissed that he had hit Sanzo, which probably felt really good to Gojyo, because he has always put up with the shit Sanzo gives him. So the almighty Sanzo had just been physically touched (not to mentioned bruised) by the lowest of his party and when he put a gun to Gojyo’s head it somehow made Gojyo think he wanted him. Even though you had warned of an alternate pairing possibility, that just caught me off guard. But you explained Gojyo’s sudden revelation of why he hated Sanzo and added a perfect description of how a romp with Sanzo would be “Searing, conquering, a battle between teeth and nails and dirty want.” So it all fit. Besides, Gojyo is a very passionate, but horny man, so I could see anger and frustration (not to mention close physical contact) turning through his mind into something else. I am enjoying this story despite the fact that this chapter actually gave me knots in my stomach from the whole Hakkai thing, which is a compliment to you. When the actions of a character in a story make the reader feel, you have done a great job! I admit I started reading this for a Saiyuki fix, but your writing style has me thinking I should check out more of your work. I am looking forward to the next chapter. Any thing that has to do with love and Gojyo always peaks my interest.

Author's Response: I think that, as long as reviews are actually reviews and are not used as chatscripts, it's all right. Besides, understanding between authors and readers are important. ^_^ It's a relief that you didn't mean that I was writing Hakkai in an unrealistic fashion. I was kicking myself over that. ^^; You leave great reviews, and your opinion's important to me. My train of thought as to why Gojyo would suddenly think of banging Sanzo went something along yours, so we are in agreement on that. And I would be totally flattered if you'd read more of my stuff! ^_^ Like I said, you leave awesome reviews, the sort that keep me writing. As for Gojyo and love, I normally don't put them in the same sentence if I can help it, but it will work just fine for this upcoming story. The ending of which will be satisfying as all hell to compose. ^_^

ah your ofc's are alwyas interesting...is this one going to be like 'the manager' ?only time will tell huh?

"he'd been awake the entire time." of course he had! probably up all night too! poor thing. sorry that kanan(the real one) and anyothers to come after...should be bitchslapped!(oops sorry do they rate reviews?)
yes this is how hakkai would be...numbed and unfeeling and pretending that the years don't exist between then and now, basically Gonou -like...a part of me is wanting him to be this way so that he can get to the bottom of this and then he is so gonna do some ass kicking before someone knocks him on the head(preferably Gojyo) and then he realises that Gojyo and Sanzo (and even Goku but not in that way) have always been there for him!!!

but you are the writer! hehehe.

yeah is funny that you're putting this here now about the gojyo realisation of sanzo...i was about to write something leaning towards that way too. firstly they are more like a fire and ice situation and that although gojyo needs and 'whatever' hakkai...the chemistry between gojyo and sanzo has always been there, especially after the 7th manga came out and everyone took note of the "cherry-chan" remark! oh they so wnat each other...yup, yup you got it the write of it their! can't wait for your next up date!
much love as always!

Author's Response: I don't know that the clerk will make another appearance, but if he does, it'll be brief. ^^; I was thinking that Hakkai would 'regress' to a Gonou-like state, because it'd be the only way for him to deal with this, but as I said in another review, all shall be explained before it's over. ^_^; I wanna kick the shit out of him, too, the stubborn bastard (and no, they don't rate reviews). I'm glad you thought the 353 wasn't too forced; it's not my favorite pairing in the slightest (we all know what THAT is), but I'm becoming more accepting as time goes on, so I might even write a 353 lemon if I get into the idea enough. Anyhow, yes. Glad you liked, as always. ^_^

Whoa. This chapter actually depressed me. I found it hard to believe that Hakkai could just be so cold towards his friends after all they had been through together. I really enjoyed learning about Sanzo’s morning routine (too much information). He is such a morning person, especially after a night of drinking the bar dry. You know how to bring out the badass side of Sanzo and I agree with your after notes . Gojyo’s anger was once again right on the mark, but the quick twist about thinking that Sanzo wanted him was a little in left field under the circumstances, but written in a way that made it an acceptable part of the story. You are very good with your interpersonal relations between the members of the group. And then there was Goku’s moment to shine. Absolutely brilliant. So perfect and so Goku! Because of the Hakkai thing, I am finding this story really angsty to an almost unbearable point. Nice job! I will definitely be waiting for your next chapter.

Author's Response: I think that if Kanan were to appear in his life again, Hakkai's personality would "regress" to a Gonou-like state. I'm sorry that you found that aspect of the story to be unbelievable, but it and everything else has an explanation that will be expounded on in the storyline later. The 353 probably does seem a bit left-fielded, because it--like the 383 acknowledgements in "Split Horizons"--were totally unplanned on my part and just spilled out into the story. So they both stand, just because it was what came naturally, as bizarre as that sounds. ^^; I love Goku; he's my comic relief, and good God does this story need some comic relief. Thank you for sticking with me; I'll try to make it worth your while.

first of all...man being a teacher sucks! ^_~
and you're really ripping into my heart for gojyo and hakkai...no! NO! NOOO!
will it ever be right between them ever again???
i'm glad you're keeping the goku you started with...the interaction here between the two normal 'adversaries' feels as much right as these two would know if something was up with the other, in a different way to how gojyo and hakkai pick up stuff about each other.
and you let Goku have beer..Sanzo is so gonna be mad at you...and speaking of whom...his highness' appearance at the end...again your priceless and precious sanzo...hmm was he going to kill gojyo because they were noisy or was it because of ....hehehe!
another nice chapter. i did try to leave a review over at mmorg, but it is too hard. i think in the end it just ate it and spat it back out! sorry. ooh and i can't wait for your surprise pairings. much love

Author's Response: ... *dies laughing* "His Highness"... that's a priceless summary of Sanzo if I've ever heard it. ^^; I see Goku and Gojyo as having a familial relationship, personally. Big brother/little brother. They pick on each other because they love each other like crazy, with the attitude of "I'm the only one allowed to kick his ass!". And when something is seriously wrong, they can tune in to that. And I personally think that if Sanzo's going to kill me, it will be because I mock him on a regular basis, and not because of giving Goku beer, although I'm sure that will be somewhere on the Reasons to Kill PoP list. ^^;

Reviewer: Sanada Anonymous Date: 05/23/05 - 11:23AM Title: Damming It All

So we learn where the hostages in the first chapter came from (poor Lian). And as promised you let Goku have a drink, for which Sanzo will kill you when he finds out. Hakkai seems to believe “Kanan” is the real deal. While the direction this is going between Hakkai and Gojyo breaks my heart, I think you did an excellent job with Goku in this chapter. How he handled finding Gojyo in his room and the reason behind it. Their discussion about Hakkai over the beer (though I haven’t met anyone that liked the taste of beer right away), Goku’s blunt questions about Gojyo’s love life and his confusion over what was going on. All of it nicely done. And as always, you did an excellent job of portraying Gojyo’s anger and frustration. And the cameo Sanzo put in was great!

Author's Response: If Sanzo is going to kill me, it's going to be because of the many, many jokes I've made about his sexual prowess and proclivities, and not because of letting Goku drink. Although that'll be somewhere on the list, I'm sure. Hakkai and Gojyo are breaking my heart, as well. In spite of the fact that I'm doing this to them. ._.;; And actually, while I didn't like beer itself at first sip, I have instantly liked certain brands of beer, for the exact reason that Goku gives--instead of tasting like alcohol, it tasted like drinking bread. ^^;

I'd been wondering if anyone would ever write a 'Kanan didn't die' fic (I've even been contemplating one of my own), but -this-, the way it happened, with Gojyo & Hakkai (finally *lol*) getting time to be together & then this happens... Gah. I can't -wait- to read the next chapter & see where you take this. And I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's favorite monkey! *lol* ^___^

Author's Response: Apparently, there is a Kanan-didn't-die fic on this website, titled "Delta". In case you're interested. I'm rather excited about your reaction to my Goku, personally. I do love him so. ^_^

Oh my, my, my. I laughed myself silly at Sanzo's 'demand' (~He looked vaguely stoned.~ I could just -see- Hakkai like that, by the way; a wonderfully funny image), & the Gojyo/Hakkai bedroom dynamic was so hot & yet really, really sweet... I dearly love this series you're crafting. This is already an egaging story, just like the others, & I've yet to read beyond the first chapter. My amazed compliments to you, Oh Talented One. ^_^

Author's Response: *bows* Thank you! Coming from such a great writer as yourself, that's a compliment. ^_^ I think that my version of Sanzo is rather extreme, but he's always amusing. I'm glad you enjoyed the little Hakkai/Gojyo scene. I do love them so, in spite of the garbage I drag them through on a regular basis. ._.; I hope you enjoy the rest of this arc as much as the last.

Reviewer: zan Signed Date: 05/20/05 - 08:46PM Title: Fairy Tales Lie

the twist itself is good..but the thing I'm not so sure would be whose version to believe...so you see i am myself going down the same road of thought as gojyo is...which is why it is believable
though true what gojyo thinks of hakkai's accounts of that night does seem to have an ethereal quality about them as the why did she wait two months i believe if not to wait for rescue..but then finding it close at hand why did she decide to end it all. she must have known what it would do to poor gonou.
but if the memories seem so real, so either they are real or someone must have played with his mind then...
actually the possibilities are endless when you think about it this way...of course the only snag being the all wise all seeing god/dess and the sanbutsushin...who should have known the true case of things...
although there again we could say that se was only doing so to save all a big headache...or not meant to interfere as it was fated that things turn out the way they did.
and here again the possibilities are endless.
however..the way you have kanan recount her side...its all kind of up in the air as to whether she is the real deal or not...to glib..too rehearsed...and she (real or otherwise) is definitely hiding something...
in the end i would be inclined to believe that gojyo (and myself) would have more faith in someone i have known for years than a shade of the past which may or may not be real...and after being through the first arc of the story gojyo should know better than anybody about trusting anything other than his faith in hakkai and himself and his own gut instinct.
you may want to take a look at a fic archived here "Delta" by Mistress Renet. that one also deals with Kanan coming back, although in a different context.
thank you for asking my thoughts on this its nice! i bet you got a little more than you bargained for...sorry if i got a little carried a way.
and on another note... i have every faith in your writing and thought capabilities that whatever you throw at us...it will be delicious and well thought out, plausible and wonderful. oh and i'm off to find mmorg now....
i missed that bit! hehehe ^_~! ok! ok ! i'm going already....

Author's Response: I don't think that Gojyo would ever trust Kanan wholly over Hakkai as this story goes, for all the reasons that you gave--if nothing else, he never even knew her, and he's known Hakkai for years and knows that he can trust him implicitly. I'd like to go into your theories about which story makes more sense, but that would involve spoilers for future sections of the fic, so I must keep my mouth shut for the moment. ^^; I do appreciate that you have some faith in me, because most people who've reviewed this have said "I think you're batshit crazy, but I'll follow this story just to see what the hell you think you're doing". And that's rather nerve-wracking. ^^;;;;

Reviewer: zan Signed Date: 05/20/05 - 01:22PM Title: Fairy Tales Lie

i soo love it when you put these two through the wringer. you write it out so well, and the characterisation that go with it is just how i think the poor redhead will react. the thought processes that you have him go through are very logical indeed. nice.

Author's Response: Why angst is so much fun and easy to do, I don't know. The next couple of chaps, like I said, are going to be a shade more lighthearted--because Goku is my comic relief aeroplane. I'd like to know, if you don't mind, what you think about the twist itself, and whether you find it to be plausible or not.

Reviewer: zan Signed Date: 05/20/05 - 01:10PM Title: Circling Overhead

my first thought was ...omg where are they...and i guess you'll tell us that when you're good and ready...
I like how you described how each of them would have handled a hostage situation, and it will be interesting to see how you have gojyo and goku manage....although i have every faith in our hanyo that it won't go totally to pot.
and man an i ever so glad you put two chapters up as it would've killed me utterly to read the last two lines and not have more!!!
and yay! you started it...*dances around with glee* i always love it when i see a new fic by you!....lol ^_~ and your depiction of sanzo is still priceless...amusing to see him in the role of the teenager who finds it just that bit ickky that his parents are still doing IT. with respect to gojyo and hakkai.

Author's Response: Yes. The flashback will be explained shortly. ^_^ The third chapter is actually up and running on MediaMiner; it's still awaiting approval here. I think that the upcoming stuff with Sanzo in the fourth section (under construction) is going to make a lot of people happy, because, well, he's hilarious. ^^; Anyhow, yes. I'm glad you like the story; I aim to please my reviewers. ^_^

Reviewer: Sanada Anonymous Date: 05/20/05 - 07:46AM Title: Fairy Tales Lie

Gojyo and Hakkai can’t seem to get a break. You were dead on (at least in my view) with what Gojyo would think and how he would handle the so-called “Kanan” showing up. You write Gojyo very well.

Author's Response: No, they can't, because I'm a whore. ._.;;; Gojyo's my favorite character, and I think it shows in the sense that I write him (imo) better than the others, but it also doesn't show, because I torture him all the time in fanfiction. Anyhow, thank you for reading (and for your patience with this story; I swear I'm not crazy).

Reviewer: Sanada Anonymous Date: 05/20/05 - 07:38AM Title: Circling Overhead

Nice tease in the opening paragraphs. Sucks you right in so that you will read to find out happened previously to lead to this event. Addressing or at least mentioning the strange phenomenon that Hazel and Gato on foot seem to be able to keep pace with or even often out pace Jippu in the actual manga was a nice touch. And I loved Sanzo’s speech to Hakkai.

Author's Response: I have never been able to understand how Hazel and Gato managed to do that. I think that they can teleport, or maybe the sheer rage of Hazel's crazy obsession with Sanzo gives him wings. ._.;; I've heard he's not as nuts in the manga, but in the anime, he's right out of his mind. Watching him was like watching water torture. Anyhow, I liked the speech, too--kept laughing when I wrote it--and I'm glad you enjoyed the opening teaser. I don't normally do things like that, and I'm relieved that you think it works. ^_^
